“I started off my career by joining a Big 4 firm. I will refrain from mentioning which one because of the unpleasant experience I had there. I joined as an external auditor as that is the path usually taken by accounting graduates.

I did not stay there for long because it quickly dawned upon me that I have made a huge career mistake. I was not happy at all being an external auditor and the firm I was attached to had a poor work culture despite being a Big 4.Therefore, I made the decision to resign from the job to join a commercial firm as an executive.

While my decision to leave was criticised by many, I was glad that I left the job. Now that I am attached to a commercial firm, I am happy to say that I am in a good place when it comes to my career. I am able to lead a more balanced life and make time for the important things in my life.

So, the moral of the story is to choose a job carefully as it can make or break you.”
